Sponsorship for AFL GB player
English sports often (quite rightly!) dominate the UK media headlines, but we’ve got our eyes on one particular league at the moment – AFL.
Australian Rules Football might not yet have the reputation of ‘the beautiful game’ or the quintessentially British rugby union, but AFL England is working hard towards the promotion and development of this exciting sport in this country. Aussie Rules first took root in England in the early 1990s and, fast forward to 2017, there are now home nation teams plus male and female GB squads too.
So, to show our own support for this emerging game – not to mention a local lad – we’ve signed up as an official sponsor of Bulldogs’ player Luke Booth.
By day, the 24-year-old is a sales executive, not to mention a decorated player for Huddersfield Rams. But following his Bulldogs debut in 2013, he is now a familiar face in the Team GB line-up too.
We’re therefore right behind him as he prepares for his next big competition – the AFL International Cup in Melbourne, Australia.
Commenting on the decision to sponsor Luke, our MD Berenice Northcott said: “Aussie Rules Football is still a relatively under-recognised sport in the UK. It’s therefore not easy for the squads to cover the costs of representing Great Britain on an international playing field.
“When we began looking at the community and non-corporate initiatives we could support this year, backing Luke was an obvious choice. He’s a talented local sportsman with a huge boot who makes a big impact in the Bulldogs team. We’re delighted to help him get there.”
This is not the only sponsorship we’ve currently got up our sleeves…watch this space!
