Protection for buildings and lives
What is a lightning protection system?
A lightning protection system (LPS) is designed to protect a structure from damage and it's occupants from injury (or even fatality) that may result from a lightning strike. An LPS prevents lightning from passing through a building by providing it with a path of least resistance to the ground - this enables the lightning to follow it and disperse safely.
A well designed lightning protection system consists of both external lightning protection (eg. rods/air terminals, conductor cables/Faraday cage, ground rods) and internal lightning protection (surge protection), which together provide full protection to the building and its infrastructure.

FAQs
Why does my lightning protection system need testing?
Any lightning protection system installed after 2008 must be visually inspected and tested at least once per year to ensure compliance with Section 5 of the Electricity at Work Act 1989 and BS EN 62305:2011 parts 1-4.
What many building owners don't realise is that whilst their lightning protection system was compliant at installation, revisions to the standards and regulations, and also to the building itself, can mean that they no longer meet minimum requirements.
When should my LPS be inspected?
Our engineers will attend your premises and undertake detailed testing and inspection of your installation to ensure that your structure remains compliant with all current legislation.
We recommend that lightning protection testing is completed every 11 months rather than 12 as this enables us to inspect your LPS to at different times of the year and under different conditions.
How do you test my lightning protection system?
As part of the testing process, we use calibrated test meters to complete earth resistance tests at ground level. We also complete a visual inspection of the conductors to identify any signs of damage.
Following every inspection, we provide a comprehensive report detailing which elements have passed or failed. We recommend any remedial action required to bring your system back into compliance.
