Brief
The Deep in Hull is an internationally recognised landmark and has even featured on a Royal Mail stamp, so when a damaged glass panel needed replacing 28 metres above the Humber Estuary, we swung into action.
Solution
Access North's team erected scaffolding on the top of The Deep's iconic structure to give them a safe rigging point, from which they descended to a working height of 28 metres. The 35 metre crane, fitted with a Hydraulica 600 Power Tilt & Rotate glass vacuum lifting device, was then guided into position. As soon as the suction cups were safely affixed to the huge, damaged 300kg pane of glass, it was carefully removed.
Once the damaged pane was safely on the ground, the replacement was cautiously lifted into the air and manoeuvred into position, where it was secured into place.
Access North Structures rope access project manager, Paul Crawford, commented: “Manoeuvring the 300kg pane of glass into position with such difficult access was challenging. However, good communication with all parties, and great weather conditions, meant the job was completed without a hitch.”
The project required a great deal of coordination between Access North Structures and the Ainscough & GGR Group teams and was completed successfully, to schedule and to the clients satisfaction.
